This past month was one of the most precious times we’ve seen yet for our women’s support group meetings. The Lord has continued to add to our sweet group and I am learning very much to listen for His heart for each one. The Lord had prompted me to ask a question, “What is your heart longing and dreams?” As we made our way around the room, our team member and licensed counselor, Jan Thompson began to share her difficult week at foster kid camp. Her heart was still breaking and her prayer was that the abuses of children would stop. She was still overwhelmed at all she saw in the kids she had been with.
Sitting next to Jan was Candy. Candy was in the foster care system as a child and suffered much abuse. Yet, she began to share with Jan about a woman who intervened on behalf of her and her siblings. Candy and I both shared how she had written a book about her experiences and shared how Christ had truly been faithful to her through the years. As she spoke, it was evident God was doing something very special.
The next day as Jan and I shared our thoughts on the meeting, we both felt Candy’s book would be beneficial for counselors to use with similar situations and also for foster kids in the system to give them hope. In November, there is a conference for counselors and we have decided to help Candy publish her book so it can be available at this conference with Jan.
We have partnered with Full Circle Publishing who is a Christ centered ministry that is super excited to make Candy’s book come to life and give hope to the hopeless. We are in process of raising the funds needed to pull the book together. If you feel led at all to give to this we have started a “Go Fund Me campaign” for Candy. We are committed to bringing her dream to life because we feel it’s not just her dream…but God’s dream in her.
Below is the link for Candy’s campaign. All donations will be facilitated by Shelly Wilson Ministries to allow the benefit of tax deductible donations. We can not wait to get this book in the hands of kids in need and counselors looking for tools that are helpful in their practice. If you prefer to mail a check the address is provided below.
