Yet they would not listen to Me or incline their ear, but they stiffened their necks and did more evil than their fathers. When you tell them all these things, they will not listen to you. When you call to them, they will not answer. Therefore you must say to them, ‘This is the nation that would not listen to the voice of the LORD their God and would not receive correction. Truth has perished; it has disappeared from their lips.…(Jeremiah 7:26-28)
I was having a conversation with the Lord about a struggle in my own heart. As soon as I said, “Why, Lord, if no one is listening…” the prophet Jeremiah came to mind.
The Lord sent him on a mission to share the word of the Lord but God told him they would be a people that refused to hear.
I became quiet in my little closet as I breathed a heavy sigh.
It was clear to me at this moment, that whether people listened or not, the assignment didn’t change. It was as much about my own willingness to obey Christ as anyone’s responsibility to have ears to hear.
The call of God will not always yield what we expect in the natural. But we must trust that the purpose of God still stands. His Word will do what it was sent to perform.
Almost 19 years into ministry I am still fully convinced even more that His ways are not my ways. Often, my expectation is entirely inaccurate, or at the very least, incomplete.
Whatever the call of God that has been placed upon you, dear friend, stay the course.
The outcome is not our responsibility but our obedience is.
