When it’s my time to go on home
And leave this world behind
I pray I leave a legacy
That’s gentle and very kind.
I pray there will be many
That testify of His grace
Not because of what I did
But because they saw His face.
I hope my name is not untamed
And leaves a bitter taste
But that my memory is honey filled
With Christ and His lovely ways.
I pray some may too witness here
That they too became strong and bold
Because they learned of His great love
And with them He broke the mold.
I’d like to not be remembered as
A religious zealot of law
But of a servant patient and real
Who listened more than talked.
I’d like to be highly spoken of
As a matter of integrity
That to the best I daily did
Desire His holy means.
I pray the gifts that were given me
Will continue after I’m long gone
And I was also able to forgive
Whenever I’d been wronged.
I beg thee, O’Lord, let the songs still sing
Over the broken of heart
Giving the life, love, and hope
That Jesus supplied on the cross.
