As we move in spiritual gifting we must not become enamored with the gifts more than the Giver of the gifts. We don’t seek experience, we seek Christ. Yet, He will at times give us a beautiful experience for sure.
After being baptized in the Holy Spirit, I was super sensitive to my surroundings. Fire would come into my belly when someone came near me as an assignment from God. I would speak and feel His fire in me swell. That did, however, subside over time. While that still happens to me through the Holy Spirit, it is not, at times, as intense nor am I, very often, aware of it at all.
There is a shift whereby we must walk in faith and will not always feel the fire, catch a vision, or even tangibly be aware of God’s manifestation of His Spirit. It does not mean that He is any less present or active and it certainly doesn’t mean He has left us on our own.
Seeking an experience can be dangerous. But seeking Christ never is.
Don’t let the enemy focus you on the gifting. Then it becomes all about us instead of all about Jesus.
Christ doesn’t always do the same thing every time He is working with us or through us. It’s ok to feel nothing at all.
Often, when I’m in the middle of a deliverance, I “feel” nothing. No power, no fire, no weight of glory, etc. I must know by faith who I am and who He is. Otherwise, the devil might try to convince me I’m alone in the work to make me less effective.
The Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever….that means in every prayer, in every moment, in every circumstance, in every day….He never lessens in power, authority, wisdom, supreme (ness), or sovereignty.
As we mature in our relationship with Him, He will make sure we learn how to walk by faith and not by sight. It is the way of the Kingdom.
Bottom line is this: keep Christ as your focus. Worship and honor Him. He will do things how He wants to and Holy Spirit will come in the exact way He wants to.
Sometimes He will hover silently and at other times He will come wreck a room. You and I, however, should just keep walking by faith every single time.
