I was late getting into my quiet place this morning. Yet, as I closed my bedroom door, came a picture of a beautiful waterfall. I began to sing to the Lord of His beauty and the gathered rain that I could see rushing over the cliff. I kept asking Him to speak to me about the waterfall and, suddenly, I realized His love rushes in just the same way very often. In a moment you are overcome by His heart.
I could feel the sheer delight in my own heart as I noticed myself riding on the rushing water as if I were at a modern day amusement park. Like a child, I twirled in the water laughing with belly laughs at His goodness. I was submerged in His playful love for me in this beautiful moment. I didn’t want to leave.
Suddenly the powerful force of the waters catapulted me over the edge of a cliff and I soared with arms wide open like a well trained diver. I could see an eagle dip down with a careful eye on my safety until I aimed for the pool of water below the fall. As I entered into the deep water I could remember His words,
Psalm 42:7
Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls…
I began to play in the pool of water that collected to form such a place of glory. I wasn’t afraid. I swam behind the curtain of water and safety found me there in the hollow of His hand. It was peaceful and full of resilient echos from His heart.
I let the waters pour over me and soak me again and again with sheer pleasure and He watched at my delight in Him. Often I found tears running down my face at His gentle love for me.
I realized there was power in the water that cleansed me of residue left from the world and that a good bath was good for His children again and again and again. He showed me also the fierceness of His waterfall. It had a voice of authority. He took me to a passage in Hosea
Hos 5:10 – “The leaders of Judah have become like thieves. So I will pour my anger on them like a waterfall.
I gave a bow to His Word knowing His waterfall of delight and yet the righteousness and holiness that also flows from it. I peered up at the cliff again and realized that no rock, no obstacle.. nothing could stop the waterfall…it was sent by The Master and He alone measured its path.
Hidden in the drops of rushing might is The Christ calling out from the depths to bring us into a deeper place with Him. This place is beyond mere words. It is the supernatural place where His Word is alive and can be seen through the eyes of a mere child. It will seem foolish to many who have yet to understand some of His ways.
I recognized the magnitude of faith to allow the water to press me over the cliff. I had to just let Him have me. There could be no fighting Him. I could rest in His weight and strength and know His plan was good and trustworthy. Although the dangers were apparent, I gave them no thought. I was with the “Voice of Many Waters” and all was under His command.
I didn’t have to worry about the landing after my dive or the jagged rocks grabbing for my flesh. No…He carries us well and any wounds were immediately tended and I felt little pain compared to the joy of the adventure.
Do you hear the waters? Do you hear His voice within the waters calling you to come get drenched? Do you long for the rain to wash over you and refresh your soul? Do you need to release the the world with the watering of His Word?
Let go of the fear. Let go of the endless worries. Don’t think of the heights or the dangers…
Just come to the waterfall…
Ephesians 5:25-26
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her 26to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, 27and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless
Ps 29:3
The voice of the LORD is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The LORD is over many waters.
Ezekiel 43:2
And behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east. His voice was like the sound of many waters; and the earth shone with His glory.
Hos 5:10
“The leaders of Judah have become like thieves. So I will pour my anger on them like a waterfall.
1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Isa 40:12
Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?
