Like you, there are some places I’ve learned to be comfortable in. As soon as I get really settled in, I find that Jesus desires another “stretching.”
Some of us keep running back to things and places God has already called us out of. That familiar place, like Egypt, carries a strong pull to a heart.
I’m here to tell you that in some seasons I would keep going back to a place over and over again until one day I realized it was putting to death the spirit of God in me.
I no longer had the grace for that space and my gifts were lying dormant.
Waiting on God for the next assignment can be hard but it is far better than discovering the unnecessary bruises earned from venturing back to a comfortable place or space, you are no longer assigned to.
Sometimes God has called me out of one gifting in any given season to learn how to cultivate another gifting I didn’t realize was in me.
I’ve had to, very often, lay down “who I was” so that I could discover “who I was to become.”
This always required me leaving my comfort zone and much that had become familiar to me. The same stirs, often, still today.
Some of us just keep plowing a dead field because we will not consider God is moving us to a new space where He has graced our gifts to thrive.
I say this so lovingly-you’ll die there if you stay too long.
You see, you’re fighting against God. You’ve resolved come Hell or high water you’re sticking it out…but Jesus, friend, has moved on. You are meant to follow Him.
God has a place of stretching for you that is meant to pull out every ounce of gifting that He knows is in you.
That familiar place that keeps knocking on your door requesting your return…making you feel “safe.”
Well, it’s your choice of course, but if I were you, I’d leave that door shut and run hard and fast to catch up to Jesus.🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Remember when God allowed the brook to dry up where Elijah was? (1 Kings 7)
What did God tell him to do?
“Arise, go to Zarephath and dwell there. I have commanded a widow to provide for you…”
Elijah had to relocate to get God’s provision and next assignment. We always want God to do the same thing He has always done, but, rarely, does any true move of God come the same exact way.
When we began praying for our ministry building, we were looking everywhere in another city that we thought we should be in. We prayed for over a year.
Then I, and others on the team, began having dreams of the city where we now have our ministry building.
We were looking in the entirely wrong space for what God had in mind….
Perhaps, some of you are as well.
It will not be comfortable to follow Christ into the unknown. However, there is much peace in knowing you are following on His heels.
Do not be afraid of the stretching season…
