The Missing Key

The Missing Key

The Missing Key

There was a key twas’ given me

Of deep and treasured love

A key ornate with great detail

Given by above.

In my hands was placed its care

To shield and to protect

To place it into many hearts

The world had brought neglect.

I placed it on a treasured stand

Forgotten and alone

Walked on by it every day

Not carrying it along.

Soon my heart was suffering

Along with others torn

And whisper did the Holy One

“Where is this key of yours?”

I fell upon my knees at once

Seeing clear my fall

I had laid down Heaven’s key

And all of Heaven saw.

I ripped my clothes and wept a pond

For I was now ashamed

But Jesus gave me once again

This key as He forgave.

Reminding me of His dear tasks

I gripped this key in hand

Never would I lay it down

For any likes of man.

To each is given unique keys

Fitting unique locks

But you must carry faithfully

The key that shines the Rock.

For if you get distracted, dear

Chains they do abound

And hearts that wait the fitted keys

The devil shall keep bound.
