The Mercy of the Altar

The Mercy of the Altar

The Mercy of the Altar

Dare not charge God as fraud to men

When sought Him not before we went.

Tis’ not His job to bless our works

But tis’ our job to ask Him first.

When all does fail and blame we God

Remember to whom deserves the charge

Sometimes it’s Satan and we’ve been robbed

And sometimes we didn’t inquire of God.

But oh, what mercy when we confess

“Oh Lord do help me, I’m in a mess!”

His heart is tendered and full of love

And when we cry out He quickly comes.

The proud will blame all manners of men

Sifting their hearts with shallow whims

But when repentance is a deepened kin

There’s mercy at the altar once again.
