There’s a little girl to which I gaze
She stares deep into space
A hue of pain around her eyes
I wonder at what’s her heart shape.
I catch myself and look away
To Father I quietly speak
To see if He might tell my heart
Exactly what she needs.
He shows me a swing and satin bows
A girl full of sparkling dreams
She’s dancing full of joy she is
With laughter that makes tears stream.
Then I see a dark and gloomy day
Where the rain is pouring harsh
The little girl has lost her hope
And wonders, “Where is God?”
She’s weary and tired. She’s given up
Her well of tears has run dry
Her heart has become hardened now
And the light is gone from her eyes.
But in the night a guest appears
Wrapped in radiant light
And a tender voice does whisper near
For the little girl to rise.
He begins to tell her all His plans
And how He formed her in the womb
He comforts her little grieving heart
And promises a life brand new.
Her eyes they are now no longer dim
There’s a twinkle beginning to stay
The darkness that covered her life so deep
Was being now stripped away.
She’d laugh; then she’d cry but never feared
For He was gentle and kind
And He began to talk to her
About His gift of abundant life.
I suddenly awoke and turned to see
An older woman in view
And then I simply realized
She was also the little girl too.
The Lord had sweetly answered my prayer
That I might see her need
He had to show me the little girl
Who lost her little girl dreams.
I smiled in my heart at Father so dear
The assignment was simple it seemed
For He was planning on visiting her
So I prayed she would simply believe.
