The Crushing

What is it that crushed your spirit, dear

That wrecked your heart and left it seared

That moment in time when the clock stood still

And seemed to devastate an act of goodwill?

Where is that pain that’s buried deep

That causes your steps a fearful grief?

The feeling that’s triggered again and again

Reminding your heart of past wastelands?

I know you’re hiding in an empty well

In mental torment. An earthly hell

But Jesus says it’s time to rise

To heal your wounds and dry your eyes.

The time has come for you to “Go.”

Take that pain for Christ to sow

Every tear did a flower plant

Bursting petals from the Master’s hands.

Soon you’ll see a garden grown

Tilled by hand with deepest moans

The soil was crushed and it was dry

Until those tears fell from your eyes.

He knows the crushing seemed so harsh

The devil planned a hellish plot

But when his pride did show his hand

The Lord turned it all for good again.
