Pro 27:8 –
Like a bird that wanders from her nest,
So is a man who wanders from his place.
I had gone for a walk this weekend and asked the Lord what He had to show me in our little secret place. Just as I pulled in I noticed a bird nest in the middle of what appeared a lifeless tree. No buds. No flowers. No leaves. No new sprouts. Just barren.
As I looked through the scriptures I noticed Proverbs 27:8. When you look at the word “place” it can mean a place, a room, a post, a space, or a home.
Just as the bird might have abandoned his or her nest, some of you have done the same.
There is a wandering that is aimless. Days turn into weeks turn into months until you look up and find yourself carried away by a multitude of things. However you’ve gotten farther and farther from your home in Christ, you’re called post, your assigned space.
It doesn’t often happened intentionally. The devil takes a little here and then a little there until he has managed to get you entirely off course. If we’ve not been diligent in watching and praying then perhaps we are now but a little wandering bird?
Your life was given for a specific purpose. Are you fulfilling that purpose? Or are you confused as to what you’re actually doing on this earth?
If the latter is true then surround yourself with passionate pursuers of Christ. Be careful to avoid lukewarm circles. They will get your nowhere because they’re already comfortable in complacency. You need circles and tribes who will challenge you to grow in Christ always following and always moving into deeper places with Him.
Some of you need to return to your nest and setup a guard against the wiles of the devil. You might have to wave goodbye to some people and places who have no real interest in the things of God. Remember that there is only one Master.
So this is for all the little birdies wandering in the wilderness.
Get back on your post and occupy that nest that’s been given to you.
Do not leave it until God, Himself, has reassigned you. Then determine in your heart that you’re going to stay put like a good soldier does until told otherwise.
