The Lord has always pressed me to be a cheerful giver. I remember vividly times in prayer when I had great delight telling the Lord, “Whoever texts me next I will send a tithe to.” He always sent someone I’d never expect in those moments. God personally directs giving.
I’ve learned to be led by the Spirit, operate in faith despite my own circumstances, and have FUN with giving.
Sometimes God called me to take a piece of jewelry off and give it away to an admiring heart. I’ve learned I really own nothing and I must hold all things loosely. I find great joy in the “art” of giving.
If we could understand the joy in giving we’d likely look at it so differently.
I don’t necessarily need a plate passed to me and there have been many times my giving was directed quite uniquely. He knows best.
The body of Christ is vast. He knows who needs what but we must listen for His direction and sometimes that very direction will lead you outside of any Sunday ritual.
You really can’t out-give God. I’ve tested it. So many give because they think they have to while Christ is looking for the hearts that want to.
It’s an honor to be a giver.
Look around this week and let God nudge you in the area of giving. You might be surprised where He directs you.
I promise it will put a smile on your face, and His.
What a gift to give indeed
To hearts awaiting precious seed
Where hope is dashed from trial’s sore
Crashing waves and Satan’s roar.
But Heaven’s heard upon the wind
His messengers He calls to send
To offer up what Christ has lent
It’s time, He says, to freely give.
Luke 6:38 Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.
