You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you… (2 Chronicles 20:17)
I have thought so often about the life of Joseph. Every inch of His story has such deep treasures we should not miss.
I want to bring to your attention the portion of his story where Potiphar’s wife accuses him of trying to rape her. It wasn’t true. Not even a little bit. She was angry with him for telling her, “NO!” and he surely paid a heavy price for it.
It has always grieved me that we never read where Joseph was able to defend himself in that particular situation. I’m sure some perhaps believed the lie but we never see where he was able to make the truth known. Only he and the Lord knew. What a deep grief to one’s heart.
That sure is one tough pill to swallow. To have others accuse you of things without even being able to defend yourself. Often, we will want to intervene and stop it but sometimes the Lord says, “Stand still.”
This scenario will likely happen to all of us at least once throughout our own lives. By nature of following Jesus, it will eventually be a test that comes your way. Despite our best efforts to love well, help long, and do the right thing, the enemy will at times get his foot in the door and twist the truth into a lie.
There have been times in my own walk where only one side of the story was told and it wasn’t mine. When I had to place every lying word into the hands of Jesus and trust Him to fight for me.
I won’t say it’s been easy. But I’ve often been reminded of David when Saul was right at his fingertips. Again and again, he refused to kill him. David tried to reason with Saul but it just didn’t matter.
The good news is this: Joseph still reached his divine destiny and you, and I, have the LION OF JUDAH fighting for us. We need only to stand still.
When the arrows fly, stand still. When the accusations hurl, stand still.
Jesus was with Joseph and He is also with you.
