Until we stop skimming the surface we will not be too effective in this war on darkness.
Our studying skims the surface and we are too satisfied with barely knowing a thing rendering us not able to articulate needed truth to hearts in need.
Skimming (dictionary)
the action of reading something quickly so as to note only the important points.
“in my skimming, I missed that”
While living a life with Jesus that only skims things, we miss much that we need. It’s like reading the cliff notes for a test. You might pass the test but you’ll not be wiser in the things of God.
We often want to skip over essential learning to get to the deeper things of God. We want to be used for miracles but lack commitment to him.
Our experience is not growing in Jesus, nor is our knowledge.
Skimming only gets what’s on top of the water…but the treasures and wonders are down deep.
When we are skimmers only it bleeds over into every area with Jesus.
We skim in prayer, we skim in Bible study, and we skim in the mission and assignments where our commitment is lacking and we only do the bare minimum to get by.
I can’t help but wonder if that is a good picture of the 5 foolish virgins. All 10 were virgins but only 5 had a lamp full of oil.
In the end only 5 were allowed to enter into the chamber of the Bridegroom. The rest were left outside the door.
Matthew 25:10 (foolish virgins)
“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
We need to realize the weight of this passage. Skimmers are at risk here. You will not gain entrance with the wise virgins. If that doesn’t shift your heart, honestly, I don’t know what will.
We’re in a season where skimming the surface won’t be enough for the oncoming war we will enter into.
Last week in our meeting we renewed our vows to the bridegroom.
Perhaps as a church body we need to all renew our vows to Christ in this season.
