While in prayer, I began to sing the words, “I renew my vows to thee.”
A holy matrimony is at hand. The bride who has “been making herself ready” is being beckoned to His deep presence.
It is a time to linger in His love. To look directly into His eyes in the secret place of prayer. To sit in His presence and wait for your directives. To worship at His feet. To commune with Him alone.
Who, today, have you made idolatrous vows to?
Perhaps it’s your job and wealth, your church and works, a position or title, or even a person who has greater influence over you than The Christ,
Himself.
Maybe we’ve sold out for platforms and positions. Counterfeit power and praise.
What carved images are still erected in our lives? It’s time to tear down that altar, Saints.
What golden calf has gotten you smitten and has become but a yoke around your neck? Where all of your trust has been placed in financial hoarding. When that idol falls in the west we will see it was never worth our worship.
Renewing your vows is coming again and rededicating your life as a living sacrifice. To build an altar for the Lord alone. To declare as for me and my house, He alone we will serve.
It is a dangerous vow to make. One that the Holy One of Israel will not forget you made. So be sure it is a serious matter to you.
The jealous God that He is will gladly and mercifully come flip any table full of little gods. He loves us too much to allow another to take His place in our hearts.
Let His grace run the roads of your heart, today, to place His finger on any idol between you and Him.
Once the light of Christ shines on it, joyfully remove it from its throne and place Jesus back where He belongs.
I renew my vows to Thee
And tear down all idolatry
Take anything that sits between
Our holy wedding rings.
I pledge my life again
Serving You above all men
My heart is in Your hands
Your bondslave, indeed, I am.
