Perhaps I have not yet surrendered
As much as I had thought.
So that the quietness of heart
Can hear the Master’s call.
Perhaps my love is not as deep
As it needs to be.
Still unable to die to self
And move away from “ME.”
Perhaps the preparation of pain
Does soften my hardened heart
To wring the bitterness all out
From hidden roots of rot.
Perhaps my gaze has too much strayed
From Heaven’s home and heart
So stillness comes to capture me
To bring me back to God.
