It is a telling stance of the flesh when a heart demands its way in arrogance rather than taking a posture of humility.
Every day we decide how to operate, and the fruits of the Spirit ought to be evident in the most trivial of things.
Often with God and with others, we might find ourselves choosing a “my way or the highway” approach to a thing.
In God’s Kingdom is a kind way of doing things, whereby He admires the heart that is able to love God and love others in such a way that leans to the divine protection of another.
Submitting one to another is an art, but love that is Heaven-born will always give way to an honoring of those around it.
Those who choose “my way or the highway” show a heart defect of sorts and an inability to give way to the heart of Jesus. If we aren’t dealing with sin but preference and peace, it at times is best to submit as unto the Lord.
Sometimes Jesus likes to see us give up our seat to another. Not in the way of laying down what is entrusted to us or that which has been given us in authority, but in the same way as one who lays His life down for another.
It speaks volumes to Christ and the world who is watching to see if we truly live out the grace that we preach.
Some of the most delicate situations can be handled with an outpouring of mercy when one chooses to go low.
Jesus is the perfect example of this. He washed the feet of others and entered into this world in a less-than-exquisite way. He could have had a royal entrance, but He chose a donkey. He made Himself of no reputation. (More on this later.)
Paul is another example whereby He had the right to make many demands on those he served, yet He chose not that path out of care for the people who made up God’s church.
We must return to a servant mentality in this hour and learn well how to love like Jesus in a “my way or the highway” driven society.
Perhaps then maybe we will look like the bride we ought to be.
