I met a man today.
He sat outside under our radio station speakers, resting and listening to the music. After another sweet appointment, I decided to go introduce myself.
We exchanged names and I made some small talk, waiting to see if Jesus had something going on.
I asked if I could pray for him, and he didn’t seem to want it, but I couldn’t quite make out all that he was saying.
He was bothered at his cigarette and I let him know it wasn’t bothering me in the least and I knelt down beside him.
I told him it sure looked like to me Jesus loved him a lot to send him to my bench and my building.
His eyes got red.
I said again, “Sir, Jesus loves you.”
He began to wipe tears and say, “You’re messing me up.”
I said, “Well, we are all a little messed up from time to time, but you should know that Jesus really loves you.”
He kept wiping tears, and I asked again if I could pray for him. I didn’t really wait this time, I just began praying as I put my hand on his shoulder.
I didn’t understand much when I’d ask him questions, but what I did know was that every time I said, “Jesus loves you” he stared into my eyes and fully understood. I knew the beautiful Holy Spirit was at work.
I felt a deep sadness in his heart, and I wondered if he was lonely.
I reminded him one more time before I left, “No matter what you’ve been told, Jesus really loves you.”
His last words to me again were, “You’re messing me up.”
I grinned and thought, “No, dear one, that is the Comforter tending your heart because He sees you, and you are valuable to Him.”
If you’re reading this tonight, please pray for my new friend. That He would have a life-changing revelation of the love of Jesus and be transformed by the power and hope that is available through Christ.
