I want to talk to you about hunger.
God loves to feed a hungry heart, but I fear we are not near as hungry as we let on.
We run to and fro to our daily obligations to friends, family, or work life. But have no unction to meet the obligation to and with Jesus.
Relationships of any kind take an intentional cultivation. They are two-sided. One cannot be responsible for all the work and develop a healthy and intimate relationship.
You will never be able to be trained in things of the Spirit if you do not intentionally cultivate that part of your relationship with Christ.
Warriors, or soldiers, are trained. We aren’t innately born with the “know-how” to hear God’s voice, walk in the Spiritual gifts, or engage in spiritual warfare.
We need to be trained.
We need mentors who’ve gone ahead of us.
We need to hear the testimonies of others and how God has helped them walk this thing out purposefully.
We go to school and college to educate ourselves, yet we don’t seem the least bit hungry enough to get what or where we need to go for our spiritual training.
We wonder why we can’t get somewhere in higher things with God, all the while we’ve placed Him low on our priority list.
Listen.
God is looking for hungry hearts, not lukewarm hearts.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Proverbs 22:9
If God and His ways of training are a “take it or leave it” proposition, then there is no hunger.
Again and again, in the scriptures, we are told to feed ourselves the Word, stay in fellowship for sharpening, remain in prayer, and surround ourselves with those who God has called to train us. In every season we need wise counsel. There is safety in that place.
We will drive hours for Disney World, hours for sporting events, and hours for all manner of entertainment. Yet, when it comes to being in the presence of God, we take a rain check.
If you find your heart is lukewarm towards God or that your passion for His presence has been snuffed out, then ask Him to rekindle the fire. Then do what you need to do and go where you need to go to learn His sweet ways.
May you burn with hunger for the things of God. For He loves to fill a hungry soul.
