I can’t make anyone a minister.
God does the choosing.
There’s no shiny positions in real Kingdom work and honestly God is the only one who anoints and appoints.
I’m only called to see in hearts what God sees and to call that person into that unique place of positioning.
We are still guilty, very often, of choosing based on outward appearance.
Some of our Davids have been faithful in the fields tending sheep but they didn’t win the favor of man.
Don’t worry, Davids calling didn’t change just because his brothers thought he was overzealous and under-qualified.
But look at God.
He held up that ordination meeting with whispers into the prophet’s heart, “That’s not him either…” not just once but again and again.
God wasn’t about to put into position someone He didn’t choose no matter how well they looked, how strong they appeared, or how educated they seemed to be.
Notoriety wasn’t on the qualifications list where God was concerned.
So God waited while the little shepherd boy was fetched. The last one thought of. The one God knew would stand up to the giants of the day. The one who knew a little boy with a big God had no real enemies that wouldn’t fall.
Imagine, God’s chosen one wasn’t even invited to the meeting for consideration.
Let that one sink in for a minute.
Perhaps it’s still true today.
So what we have is not men or women after God’s own heart but men and women after their own hearts.
And now we have what we have and we are where we are.
But here is encouragement for the David’s. Those who have been tirelessly leading the sheep in their field.
Just you and Jesus.
Those David’s who had to kill the lions and the bears to guard what was entrusted to them with their very life.
Jesus saw all of that.
Those who were found worshiping in the meadows while Hell crouched in wait.
Those who became skilled by God Himself and kept a heart of compassion even when harm came to them personally for it.
You’re anointing is sure, David.
You’re calling has been written in the book before you were one day old.
You’ll lead those no one else would lead.
Those who were rejected and ostracized by society and our church culture. Those who were used and abused instead of protected and encouraged.
Fear not.
God is with you…
And if God be for you then who can be against you. (Romans 8:31)
God sees the Davids.
