Fully Present
I have found the sweet spot of small groups. A precious place where it is not about numbers but about transformative work in the Kingdom.
While I do believe we all have a unique path to walk out with Christ, I’m glad He rewired my thinking on “audience.”
Learning to listen, I often say, was one of God’s greatest gifts to me. As much as I love and need the spiritual gifts to help me with hearts, without learning to listen we can be amiss in our efforts.
Being fully present is significant if we’re to heal or help.
Listening isn’t just required from me to them but also I must listen for the Lord.
He is the counselor, the guide, the helper. I need Him intimately involved with every person I minister to.
I am still in awe at the times He cleared our rooms for one person who needed our undivided attention. The small gatherings that afford intimacy and rich discussion. The fellowship that is fostered as hearts truly get to know one another and become family.
This, honestly, is lost to a measure in large, corporate gatherings. If we’re honest, we know little about our neighbors and what they need. We seem to often be in it to win it for ourselves leaving many silent hearts suffering.
I still love, and hope so much, to do concerts and conferences in 2026. Those are also seed sowing moments with Christ. All are significant in the Kingdom. But when my mantle changed several years ago, I had to follow the Shepherd closely to become a shepherd of His making and part of that was a real focus on small groups and intimate gatherings.
Making disciples is a deep work. One of stewardship and faithful endurance. Being sure that while spiritual food is offered so is a tending and mending as well as practical application of scriptures and fruits of the Spirit.
It becomes a bit more of a quiet work. Putting your hands into the mud and mire to partner with God making something beautiful.
And I LOVE IT…
Numbers prove nothing. If that is our aim then we are hidden to God’s heart.
Leave the numbers alone, focus on the hearts He sends. It is those He has given to you to love fully well.
Learn to listen and stay fully present with them.
