Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Psalm 37:4
I find we must be so careful that the enemy does not distort our view of the Lord. Many bury dreams with guilt that they should not follow what’s in their heart forgetting that the Lord places dreams within us. Of course, we are to following Christ and, yes, sometimes the dreams are not His. However, today I speak to the former as Christ has awakened my own heart to this caution. When not careful we end up removing all sheer delight in Christ and the great adventures He longs to take us on. This, too, is part of our journey of getting to know Him. We begin to focus on the hard road and slowly the enemy tells us we cannot enjoy life on earth. Yet, Christ in all His abundance will absolutely grant deep desires as we delight in Him.
I am finding these days Him bringing me back to an adventurous heart with Him. He provokes me often to ask for something that makes Him smile. He desires a radical faith for the impossible. Sometimes mere intellect will suffocate your heart and His desires. It’s not that I am pleading for signs and wonders, but that I am enjoying my relationship with my good, good Father who delights in giving me sparkling surprises that I can share with a world who sees Him with a tainted view.
Go ahead and get that big dream back out friends. He will receive glory in it. The enemy has lied to you and told you it was foolish and that you cannot have such a thing. However, Christ has a purpose for it and He is the one who gave it to you. Don’t withhold from Him that which He placed inside of you. You were never meant to bury your talents. Honestly, that makes Him very unhappy. Are you considering Him a “hard man?” or are you multiplying that which you have been given? His pleasure is not that you get it perfectly right but that you delight in Him as you pursue it. Come as a child again and squeal with sheer delight in what the Lord wants to do with and through you. Dust off the dream. It’s time.
The enemy has robbed My sheep
Of dreams and visions plain
For he has hidden My promised Word
Under the law that reigns.
Delight is what I’m longing for
That you might be glad with joy
And raptured full of glee that shouts
Delight in Me, the Lord!
That dream that rests now still asleep
The enemy has sown such guilt
Convincing you that dreams are foolish
And you should bury it.
But in My heart I placed in you
A dream with no regrets
Let’s take adventures once again
Delight in Me I said!
I want to give you pleasures more
Of knowing Me so deep
In order to get to My heart
You’ll have to wake My dream.
I am a God of sheer delight
A good Father who gives to thee
More than you could think or ask
When you delight in Me.
