There is a reason women love Hallmark movies. It’s the ever longing for the Prince to fall in love with the ordinary girl. The deeply embedded desire to be seen and loved unconditionally. The yearning for a love affair that is pure and tender. It’s the staring gaze of knowing you are safe in the arms of one who will cherish and protect you for all your days. The love that will walk deep valleys of pain with you while wiping tears carefully as He listens.
You may scoff at the lack of reality in parallel to what real love is like: yet, I have found exactly that in Christ, Himself. The fairy-tale that ain’t no fairy-tale. He is more in tune to my needy heart than all the Hallmark movies put together. His desire for us is more than any human being can ever offer us. We will always have a lack in our hearts without Him because He placed eternity in us. He made sure we would look for Him even when we didn’t know that He was what we might be missing.
We might run to every human known to man and plead for a heart filling but all will come up short in light of His great love.
Every woman longs for the one who loves them as Christ loves the Church merely because we were designed to respond to this kind of love. Anything less will never do.
While the world will always fall short of this love we desire, Christ can fill every inch of it…. completely. In this we can be sure… others will be unable to offer us wholeness. Christ is the only one who can fill our voids. So in this truth we release all others from expectations of doing what only Jesus can do.
Ponder the love that took whipping after whipping knowing before hand the very pain it would inflict upon Him. He didn’t run from the pain. He walked full face into it….for me….and for you. God in the flesh knew every step His very feet would trod up that hill. He foreknew that He would feel the piercing of the nails. He saw ahead the crown of thorns reserved for Him and how He would have to lift Himself up to take in every breath on that cross. Do you understand?
His love for us pressed Him to the cross. It held Him there until the veil was torn and the darkness covered the earth. He knowingly allowed them to arrest Him bowing beneath the cup He must carry. Not one moment of excruciating pain was a surprise to Him. He already saw it……
He sweat tears and blood praying for another way… don’t you imagine He looked upon the agony of what would become of Him?
Yet in all His divine nature He saw the other side of the tomb. There would be a resurrection. Glory would have the last word and Satan would be crushed once and for all.
To some this is a fairy-tale….to me…it’s the greatest Hallmark movie ever written where the ordinary girl finds her Prince who is really a King and their love lives happily ever after…
