From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but wounds and bruises and putrefying sores; they have not been closed or bound up or soothed with ointment. (Isaiah 1:6)
If we have a place in our hearts still seeping it will speak in ways that bring an unclean war. Let us each let Christ put His finger on hidden wounds that bring us to a place of questionable behaviors.
We won’t see clearly into other’s hearts and we will end up ultimately rejecting any necessary biblical correction or potential for better healing. It’s not something we mean to do but the wound is speaking.
I’ve seen unhealed wounds cause much harm causing damaging divisions, as well as sabotaging others in various ways. This exposes a heart need that is yet unmet. Eventually, Christ will come to deal with the wound because it can take us into sinful patterns that dishonor Him, and others. His heart desire is for us to be fully healed.
A wound can be an open door for the enemy to take charge and use it as a tool of destruction. It can allow the enemy to whisper lies that cause you to begin to assault another’s life and character in ways that are not only inaccurate but devious. The wound is still speaking and now it stinks. There’s been a shift and all the anger found in that wound has decided to go wreak havoc that in the long run will cost you way more than the time spent trying to heal your heart.
I’ve found in working with hurting people it can be a war of the worst kind. When peeling back layers, you often have to touch hot spots. These spots may cause one you’re trying to love and help to actually turn on you.
For a mercy heart, it can be so hard because that wound often needs the company of others and makes its way into willing ears and begins a war against your own integrity and the enemy begins to use that putrefying wound to twist words and meanings. Now, there is a real moving in deception and darkness rather than life and light. If not careful, this can happen to any of us.
You, and I, will have to learn to keep walking in grace and truth. I still see the potential of more freedom in a life not quite ready to hear even when the wound is still present. However, sometimes I have to release them for a time and let the Lord have them fully. I can, at times, be in the way of His rescue.
This was one of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn while walking with broken people. I can’t speed up recovery and I am not the healer.
I think much about Christ coming into a hurting world to bring healing. He was not met with a warm welcome by many. Yet, He still was compassionate at their pain even when they rejected His love.
My prayer for you, and I, is that Christ would help us humbly keep loving even when it seems our best efforts come back to wound us. Working with broken hearts has a way of breaking your own.
But I’m certain it also breaks His…and because it’s His heart, we must keep extending our hand of mercy as people helpers.
