For some there is now a crossroads. The Lord whispered in my ear this morning that some have deemed the “cost as becoming too much.” I felt this was literally the financial cost although it certainly could mean beyond finances as well.
There is a complaining spirit around you as gas prices rise and grocery bills soar. As the drought sets us back and the rain has yet to be enough. Let us remember who holds the rain at His command and search our hearts to see if we be a people who need to repent and return. Withdrawing from the work of the Master will not yield His rain. It might, perhaps, delay it further.
The financial cost of following Jesus is now “too much” so you’ll be separating yourself from the work of God. Voices have been in your ear complaining with logical reasonings that have been sent to halt your, and His, purpose. Will you follow man or Christ?
The real truth is that the priorities of God are now teetering in your life because His priorities are not the priorities of those around you. Those voices seem to have a higher ranking to you than Jesus. How much longer will you allow it? An idol has been erected in your heart. This is sin.
When we read the scriptures, not only did it cost the disciples in goods, time, and provision to follow Jesus, but it cost their very lives. They surrendered all.
Some of us seem to think Jesus should pay us for following Him. Rather, it is a privilege and honor to do so.
Today we are about to find out where the rubber meets the road. Who among the body has a dedication to follow Christ no matter the circumstances. To surrender no matter the cost. To obey no matter what others even closest to us say.
Turn to that voice negating the way of Christ and say, “Get thee behind me, Satan.” We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities in high places. Did Peter not have a demonic spirit using him to thwart the plan of Jesus? Perhaps what you are dealing with is not flesh and blood? Will you continue to coddle it or evict it?
There is always a cost, but He is always a provider. Jehovah Jireh is who He is.
This is no time to withdraw. Yet, many will.
The blessings of Jesus attracted many, the obedience required from Him attracted few.
The cost may be paramount to us, but it was also paramount to Him.
