When they found Him, they said to Him, “Everyone is looking for you.”
But He said to them, “Let us go into the next towns that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.”
And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee and casting out demons. (Mark 1:37-39)This passage struck me deeply this morning.
Christ had to stay focused on the mission at hand. The mission gave Him by the Father.
Although everyone was looking for Him, and the disciples clearly were concerned about it, He simply said, “Let us go into the next towns that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.”
He did not even address their concern. Amazing isn’t it?
His purpose was not to please everyone, answer every invitation, or meet every need. He knew His purpose and He meant to fulfill it.
It is a grave mistake to answer every voice or every request that comes your way, my friend. You must remain focused. Nothing gets us distracted quite like appeasing the masses.
There are times we must resist all pressure to engage so that we might do what we have been called to do.
In this moment, apparently Jesus was supposed to be preaching in the synagogues and casting out demons throughout Galilee. He was to be in a certain place at a certain time with a certain people.
Do not let the enemy get you off your assignment because of a false sense of obligation.
You’re only obligation is to the call of Christ Jesus and you can trust Him to care for those you are not assigned to in any given season.
So even when the world is looking for you…set your face like flint and follow Jesus.
