The rainbow can’t come
Until it first rains
Dandelions, tulips
And lilies refrain
The seed in the dirt
Will be a dead weight
And nothing shall grow
Until it first rains.
A dream it lays dormant
Until it first rains
A heart of compassion
Will be still at bay
And destiny is hindered
As a treasure to claim
But Christ will withhold it
Until it first rains.
Creation would shrivel
Until it first rains
Dryness would leave
Every creature as lame
No human exempt
To the refining Name
Yet strength doesn’t come
Until it first rains.
Intimacy is unknown
Until it first rains
Blossoming buds and vines
Pruned and pained
The vineyard prepared
With your written name
Will die on the vine
Until it first rains.
His power won’t come
Until it first rains
Prophesying daughters
Are loosed from man’s shame
The scriptures are clear
And Christ did proclaim
Tarry thee here
Until it first rains…
