But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6
There have been so many times that I have not fully understood what God was doing but I moved in faith. Some times with Christ it can be a lot of trial and error. Part of our life with Him is learning to hear Him more clearly. I’ve moved in things I was certain was God to see it end up nothing like what I imagined.
I recently moved in something that I felt I heard God clearly on. By the third time, there was absolutely no fruit. So I went to prayer, “Lord, I must have something not quite right so I’m going to stop this thing I have been doing and pray for you to reveal to me what it is that I have missed here.”
Listen, the circumstance can be a way to hear God’s voice remember. You, and I, must be willing to re-evaluate anything at any time. The worst thing to do is to keep moving in something that is not producing fruit. Bury that thing!
Do I think I was in error? I am not sure but I know God is pleased with a heart of faith and because I know His heart is to work all things out for good then I am confident He will get me where I need to be. I am certain He would rather see me move in faith than never move at all. He is pleased by faith. Often, I’m sure Heaven grins as He says, “Shelly, that wasn’t what I meant but it was a noble try, daughter. Let’s try it this way…”
I’ve had plenty of “WHAT WAS THAT?” moments. Much sweat and tears as I’ve take a step, any step, under His unction without one clue of what I was doing. I am the queen of “I have no idea to do that, Lord.” But isn’t that the beauty of following Jesus? That there is a sense of adventure in the not knowing but trusting THE ALL KNOWING?”
It is a supernatural walk you know. If you’ve only been stretched to what you know, well, just wait. There will come a time when you will walk into an arena that is out of your control and comfort. You will have to lean fully on Jesus. It’s a scary place to be for us humans but one of the most beautiful places to be. It’s that trial and error and His grace constantly helping us to strengthen our discernment, grown in our faith, and learn to NOT lean on our own understanding. The trial and error moments of faith are those moments where we learn new strategies with Jesus, lean in closer to His heart, and see new depths in His Word that, perhaps, were not revealed to us before.
When it comes down to it, it is impossible to please God without faith.
You will not get it right the first time every time. But you will learn each time. Every seeming “failure” is one step closer to His success-and remember His success looks nothing like the world’s success so be careful how you look at things. Make sure you’re looking with the eyes of Christ and His Kingdom.
