There’s pearls and diamonds
And royal gems
Strings of beads
And beaded trims
Lace that’s lots
And lots of lace
Rubies and emeralds
And amethysts made.
There’s crowns that dazzle
And scepters that shine
Shiny fabrics with embroidered twine
There’s glass that glistens
On shiny shoes
Are any of these secret treasures to you?
There’s trinkets and gadgets
And flashy brands
Plenty that’s named
From a famous man
There’s trophies and plaques
With noted fame
Are any such treasures
That heal the lame?
There’s automobiles and mansions on hills
Country clubs and dazzling thrills
Trips to Paris and Caribbean cruise
Planes and trains and rafting tubes.
There’s vacation homes to steal away
Makeup and hair-dos to cover grey
Fancy restaurants to eat and play
Movies and putt putt to entertain.
Yet Christ did form a treasure strong
A prized possession above them all
The hearts of many a living soul
Breathed in life with Kingdom roles.
He tucked inside a Kingdom plan
Fitted with clothes, with feet, and hands
Planted a seed of eternal hope
That none would be satisfied on his own.
He whispered secret gifts and things
Ways we’d come onto the scene
To shine a light in darkened means
But dulled we are by pointless things.
He cherished us each and came from high
To pay a debt for His treasured bride
The God Himself with power and might
Left His home to be despised.
With love no man could understand
He hung with lepers and a corrupt tax man
With women left scarred by society
Embraced them into royalty.
With all He made left at the throne
He walked the earth without a home
He worried not about His lot
Gladly fulfilling His ordained plot.
With riches at His fingertips
Thousands of angels awaiting Him
Clothes and flesh had all been stripped
Yet Christ the priceless pearl commits.
Yet after all that He did pay
Is now a time where idols are made
When worldly things just take His place
And Babylon now has come and stayed.

But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; 21for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:20-21
