It is often that transition brings such a change that some things seem lost. All those you carried with you before aren’t always called to move into your next season.
You’ll have to learn to travel light and hold everything loosely. At any moment anything, or anyone, might be redirected or reallocated.
We like to think often of storing up things in preparation for future needs.
That might be wise at times, yet sometimes God simply says to take nothing with you.
“Take nothing with you for the trip: no walking stick, no beggar’s bag, no food, no money, not even an extra shirt.” Luke 9:3
Faith at times requires you to travel light. Dependence on God alone will make a man or woman sound in his, or her, walk with Christ.
When the comforts of life in the way of people, places, or things have been removed in such a way that you hear the whisper, “Consider the lilies…” you’ll know the Good Shepherd is leading you well into a deeper relationship with Him.
Hoarding and controlling everything around you isn’t helpful in a faith walk. It exposes fear and anxiety.
Fear of loss.
Fear of lack.
Fear of not having enough.
Fear of abandonment.
But Christ says, like those precious lilies, there is no need to toil. He will clothe you Himself.
This walk with Christ is full of sudden and unexpected travel itineraries where you’ll have to pack light, tossing much excess overboard so that you can get where you’re going as you follow His divine road signs.
You’ll not want a lot of overhead baggage to carry around. It’ll wear you out in the end. You’ll soon realize how much of a burden all that “extra” really was. Jesus loves to simplify things for us at times, and we don’t even realize He’s doing us a favor.
There is a beautiful weightless feeling to traveling light and letting God carry the burdens of all else.
What, or who, you need will be given when you need it, and what, or who, is gone in this season will be replaced when you need it if He deems it necessary.
All the while, you’re learning more about the heart of our divine provider, Jehovah Jireh.
You can whistle while you work, dance in the fields of flowers, and know that when God calls you to travel light, He has a good reason for it.
“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin…” Matthew 6:28
