I was worshiping this morning before the Lord when a song came on that mentioned “to write upon my heart..” This phrase wouldn’t leave me and I began to ponder and ask the Lord about what that might look like. Quickly, I saw a hand place His finger upon my heart and write….the word write actually means to inscribe or engrave…those words gave much insight into His process of writing upon our hearts..
I saw a hand come nigh
And watched it start to write
And as the cut grew deep
I winced with stinging grief.
Tis said the Lord inscribes
His Word upon thine heart
Engraving and chiseling deep
Requires a pressured plea.
To set thine words in frame
Assuring that they do stay
The etching must go deep
Or life may rub them free.
His writing will cut away
The pieces that need not remain
For after His law is in place
He’ll polish and seal it with grace.
The harder the surfaced heart
Will call for manipulations need
And Christ will write and inscribe
His love and name for thee.
In hearts who’ve yet to be His
Not yet drawn by Holy Spirit’s wind
He’ll give a new heart indeed
And claim it as His own sheep.
Time will now be required
To heal thy wounds of His love
For pain is often the tool
Chosen by Heaven above.
But then you shall not soon forget
The words inscribed on thine heart
For He has secured them well
With pressured pain’s and marks.
