Like Elijah, I’ve heard the soft whisper of God come when I’ve decided to hold up in my own darkened caves. One has to get used to stillness and quiet to allow God to speak sometimes.
I’ve certainly heard the Lion of Judah when He roars, but I’ve often found Him in the calming quieting of my soul and surroundings.
We are a people who like to make noise. Silence is hard for us. Even in worship, we’ve yet to learn how to give God room to respond.
When the Spirit begins to brood over His people, we tend to rush back into busyness rather than letting the Spirit have His way and take His time.
We get super uncomfortable in the silence. Perhaps it’s because God begins to poke and prod deep in us, and it is unbearable to sit and let Him expose us. We are afraid of being fully seen.
His finger will begin to point to unsolved behaviors and long-lasting sin bents. He will hover over painful wounds that we just soon ignore and break open every scab that never healed properly.
Our singing is often not attached to our hearts, and we lack the entering in necessary for intimate communion with Christ.
But if you’ll allow Him room, you’ll hear a soft whisper begin to echo in your heart. He will tenderly start the binding process of that which has gone untouched by you and kept from Him.
The voice of the most powerful ONE there is comes softly and tenderly very often.
Might we dismiss the clamoring for attention often brought into our spaces, whereby only One is actually worthy of it?
In the stillness of any room, that soft whisper will come on the heels of a weight you can tangibly feel. It’s the weight of His Glory as He enters. It is best to just stand still. Very still.
As His wind makes its way through every crack and cranny, He is looking for something. He has a reason for His coming, and He doesn’t mind wrecking your room and plans.
Let us learn to hear the voice with the soft whisper. Let us learn to yield the floor to Him. Let us quiet our souls while He sifts what is needed and necessary.
For packed within that soft whisper is everything you could ever need. The very Voice of Many Waters who can provide a waterfall in your belly of powerful living water that sprouts up like a spring.
He is worthy of being heard and what He has, you need.
