One of the hardest things to work through with Jesus is the inability to defend yourself when others have wrongfully accused you.
I think a lot about Joseph and all those years in prison after being falsely accused. The Bible never tells us that he was able to set the record straight. That has always hurt my heart a little.
But honestly, God doesn’t always allow us to set the record straight either.
Sometimes He trains us in the ability to keep silent on a matter. Sometimes, yes, He opens a door for a conversation. But I’ve seen a lot of the former over my years.
I’ve had many a meeting with Christ in the secret place inquiring of why I wasn’t given a chance to explain, a moment to plead my case, or perhaps just the benefit of the doubt from some.
More often than not, He has chosen not to answer those questions and silence can be a hard pill to swallow.
Yet my eyes will run across the precious passage of Exodus 14:14:
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
There is a deep wound that can fester in this place if not given over to the healer, Jesus. He will also have to work peace in your heart at the things in life that seem to be left undone.
I wish I could tell you that it was easy, or that I conquered it on the first try but, frankly, it has taken many Jesus meetings, plenty of counseling appointments, and a tremendous amount of processing the pain in safe places to rise above it all.
Yet even still the intimacy with Christ that came out of those ashes was deeper and more meaningful than ever before.
You begin to truly realize the truth of Him being a shade at your right hand (Psalm 121), the Good Shepherd who leads you beside still waters (Psalm 23), and the one who inclines His ear to listen (Psalm 116:2).
So even in the turmoil, Jesus becomes more real to you and I suppose this is the entire point of any season in life.
Don’t fret, friend. Jesus knows the path you’ve walked and not for a second has He overlooked the false accusations.
There is a day coming when He will make every wrong, right. Until then, keep forgiving and keep living.
The Mighty Defender of His Sheep has not forgotten you for one second.
Deuteronomy 32:4
The Lord is your mighty defender, perfect and just in all his ways; Your God is faithful and true; he does what is right and fair.
