There once was a little bird
Sitting inside her cage
She watched as the others
Frolicked and played.
She sang all alone
From the depths of her soul
Songs of deliverance
From high notes to low.
She wondered at what
It was like to be free
Able to fly and
Soar as she sings.
Dreams of landscapes
That she’d never seen
Stirred in her heart
While on bars she did lean.
The nights would be dark
And the days were so long
Staring outside
Hearing others sweet songs.
“How it must be so beautiful,”
she’d say.
“Father, will you please
Release me one day?”
She tucked in her beak
Up under her wings
Tears streaming down
Covering her feet.
Then Father came in
And sat next to her
“Let me now tell you
My sweet little bird.”
This cage that your in
Is one that’s self made
Fear and deep doubt
Have caused you to stay.
Yes, I’ve seen your longing
And singing for “more”
Yet, never you have
Tried to open The Door.
If you had been willing
And ready to leave
This place of sure comfort
Sure food and sure drink.
If faith had been sight
And your eyes could have seen
If only your heart
Had trusted in Me.
You would have realized
That freedom is yours
Once you are willing
To follow your Lord.
You see little bird
With every tick tock
I’d wait you to see
That door never locked.
