The Lord is going to remove all unnecessary “Linus” blankets in this season.
We often create a “cushion” for ourselves not because we need to but because of fear.
When I began in ministry, I was terrified to speak in front of anyone, so I made sure my music tracks ran right together with no pause. It sounded like a good plan but the motive was fear and insecurity.
Often we give our keys to another or step back into the shadows not because God has commanded us to, but because we are covering up fear and insecurity.
Linus didn’t want to be without his blanket, just like often our little babies have their “Loveys” to help them sleep.
We have a coping mechanism that makes us more comfortable at times, but God is not too keen on us being too dependent on anything or anyone.
A person or persons can also serve as our “Linus blanket.”
I may lean too heavily on someone for answers, comfort, or safety, and that “Linus blanket” needs to be repositioned or even removed so that I can learn to be wholly dependent on God.
One of my personal coping mechanisms was to ask others to participate in events with me. While sometimes that might be God, the Lord put His finger on this and said, “This is actually because you think that you alone are not enough.” I had to agree with Him and begin to remove that “Linus blanket” way of thinking.
God in me is quite enough.
So who or what has become your “Linus blanket?”
Sometimes a mentor is removed because their role is completed. Yet, your heart still leans heavily on that precious “Linus blanket.” God cannot allow the relationship to continue because you need to “fly forward” into your purpose and go to that next place with new people who will help you in the new season of growth.
There is always a time when Elijah must go and Elisha must pick up the mantle.
Perhaps today you’re staring at a mantle that you’ve yet to pick up.
God is with you, friend. You can depend on Him, alone. You no longer need the “Linus blanket.”
Psalms 62:5-8
I depend on God alone; I put my hope in him. He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated. My salvation and honor depend on God; he is my strong protector; he is my shelter. Trust in God at all times, my people. Tell him all your troubles, for he is our refuge.
