Life is full of disappointments. Heart woundings. Pained promises.
Yet the soldier of Christ must decide in his, or her, “heart” to rise again.
I shared with our group last week that I’ve had to tell my heart to get back in line with Jesus because it has a mind of its own. It wants what it wants and it doesn’t mind defying God to get it.
The heart is a dangerous thing if not kept in check.
It can deceive you, mislead you, and sabotage you. It can counsel you with unwise counsel and make it sound just like Jesus.
The scriptures tell us that “the heart speaks,” “the heart yearns,” and the “heart has thoughts.”
Interesting isn’t it?
I had to become very stern with my heart lately as it pined away for something now gone and not likely to come back again. God had made His final decision but my heart was not listening.
How wicked and deceptive it really is and you cannot afford to give it any room to rebel against God because it surely will.
It has a demanding nature about it. Kind of like a person all its own.
I’m learning to command my heart to submit to Jesus, follow Jesus, and die to its own desires.
It doesn’t like it in the least. The wrestling can be intense.
It’s like the abused woman who is sure the abuser will never do it again. Her heart is set on him no matter his toxic ways. So her heart leads her back to him until one day that same heart leads her to a grave.
The heart is not to be trusted.
A friend and I were talking and she made mention of the scripture that the tongue is the hardest to tame. Yet, we both agreed the heart is as well.
Be vigilant with your hearts.
Seek wise counsel in times of need.
Know well yourself and be honest about your weaknesses and do not be unwise of the devils schemes.
He is out to kill, steal, and destroy and very often he knows he can use the human heart to get that job done.
Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
