If we learned anything in the Proverbs 31 Woman Bible Study, we learned again and again how active the bride of Christ is to be for the sake of the Kingdom.
She does not eat the bread of idleness.
This renders words like lazy, sluggard, etc.
She (the bride) plows the field and buys (wins) it. She “seizes” the lands for the bridegroom.
She is actively pursuing lands and fields for Jesus like a merchant or door-to-door salesman. She sails like a ship on deep waters because she is a vessel.
She (the bride) in the end is praised by her husband (the bridegroom) for her “works” in the gates. The deeper meaning of that word can refer to the “gates of Heaven.”
It is not that we are saved by works, but that the bride works out of love for the bridegroom. She overflows with a desire to serve Him. She is always multiplying His Kingdom by working the land. She is indeed a laborer.
Her mind is “set on” the land that the bridegroom entrusts to her. She carefully imagines and plans how fruitful it will be by her working it. She is always tending the field and taking more land for the bridegroom’s sake.
There is an element of faithfulness woven into the true Proverbs 31 Woman. I’m deeply sorry for the shallow understanding that has relegated the entire passage to being about a natural woman, which has effectively pulled a veil over the beauty of the husband who is famous at the gates, the bridegroom. (Christ)
Let us rebuild the ruins here and bring the focus back to Christ Jesus here…the husbandman and bridegroom.
If we long to be the faithful bride praised in the gates, we must see His (the bridegrooms) heart for her. (The bride)
It brings to mind the words we all quote that we long to hear, “Well done good and faithful servant.” We saw the connecting of the dots of a faithful bride doing the bidding of the bridegroom during our 5-week study.
The bride is to be effective. Fruitful. Bold. Unsilenced. She is mentioned to be a “force” and “army.”
May we take another look within the scriptures and ask the bridegroom if we have been faithful with that which He has given us to tend…or have we become a bride who eats the bread of idleness…
