Satan is a master at digging into an old wound. For he knows exactly what your history holds. Where each painful memory resides and he does all he can to bring it to mind. When a wound heals it doesn’t necessarily heal fully and sometimes it is unable to heal because the protective scab over the wound keeps getting knocked off. Just like when your kids hurt themselves yet keep hitting the same spot over and over. So it goes with our many kinds of wounds. Even the wounds of the heart.
I had asked the Lord if a broken heart looked different… literally. I use to be in the medical field dealing with heart disease. I was curious if there was any research on broken hearts. It was fascinating and tearful when I saw what is now a medical term called “Broken Heart Syndrome.” There is actually an acute response sometimes where the heart enlarges..speaking in generalities here to not go into all the dynamics of heart function. It actually can cause death. I have known people who I wondered if they died of a broken heart where there was nothing wrong with them but a preceded time of deep grief. The loss of a spouse or child was an example the American Heart Association used as recent tramatic things in the lives of those with Broken Heart Syndrome. There is a treatment that resolves this most of the time but takes awhile for the heart to become normal. It gave me much compassion even more for the broken hearted and the seriousness for their care. I have many times forgone attention to a heart in need of binding. I am so glad Christ always tends a broken child.
As I was pondering this I simply recognized before Him the need for healing we all have and I heard Him say…Sear the Wound.. my prayer is that if you are in need of healing for a seeping wound for any reason that you will find a safe place to share your grief and that you know your Father is desiring to sear your wound and turn your mourning into dancing…
It’s true that when a wound does rise
Pain and tenderness at times subsides
Yet many a hearts are bruised and worn
Seeping on occasion from affliction’s scorn.
A moment or word..a casual glance
Dreams of the past that no longer dance
Release has been made and forgiveness is sure
Yet sorrow is still fastened secure.
Waiting is hard for Christ to complete
The binding of wounds where pain still seeps
Patience…it’s work is hardest of all
The days of deep grief can be very long..
Rehearse His Word out loud and proclaim
Lift up thy heel for Satan’s dooms day
Healing will come in the blink of an eye
To sear that old wound so it no longer cries.
(Bless His Name…)
