I was letting my 3-year-old granddaughter watch a Beckah Shae music video while I was visiting. I noticed she was more still than usual. There was an illustration of God in the lyric video, and she pointed to it and said, “Sheshy, is that your friend, God?”
I laughed and said, “Yep.!” But in my heart, I was thinking how in the world did she know He was my friend? I’ve never called Him “friend” in front of her to my knowledge.”
This scripture was rolling through my mind:
James 2:23, “And the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God.”
She kept asking for me to play “More Beckah.” I’m not sure how many we watched, but it was a lot. She seemed enamored.
I went to lie down with her till she fell asleep, and we had just read a book about The Prodigal Son that she had in her room.
Suddenly, she asked me if God lived in the sky. I said, yes, but in Heaven. Then she asked me if Jesus lived in the sky and I said again, yes, but Heaven. (Let me confess now that this Jesus chaser was wwaayy behind on the Holy Ghost promptings this particular night!)
I then said, “One day when you’re ready, you can ask Jesus to come to live in your heart.” She said, “Jesus would come to live in my heart?” I said, “Yep.”
She then looked up to Heaven and said sincerely, “Jesus, would you come to live in my heart?”
Then she gasped with delight like she felt something.
She smiled at me, and I smiled at her.
Then she began to point to the door and said Jesus had opened the door and put gold under her pillow. She said it was “treasure.”
I looked at the door. Stunned.
I remembered the scripture:
Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.
I was not exactly grasping what had just happened because honestly, Jesus can still surprise this ole’ girl.
I said, “Goodnight, Peanut.”
She said, “Goodnight Sheshy…then she looked down at her heart and said, “Good night Jesus.”
The next morning, I was talking to her mom about it all, and she began to tell her mom about Jesus opening her door and putting gold treasure under her pillow.
All I can say is that it is clear to me that the Father was drawing her all night long, and it began with those Christian music videos.
The next morning I watched her stomp around with a pretend-lighted torch like she saw Beckah Shae carry in her video about Adonai.
I prayed all the way home that the Lord would continue to fan that flame.
When Jesus says, let the little children come, He means it.
