- the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc.
Or
2. an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action.
It takes a fierce commitment to walk with Jesus. Every manner of distraction will pull you away from staying in the word of God, following the commands of Christ, and finishing what He has assigned to you.
It is not a good thing to remain where you’ve been in this walk with Jesus. We should always be learning, always progressing, and always going deeper into His heart.
But if you can be swayed off-center by every demand of life, request of man or any other obligation that keeps you from the serious pursuit of Christ-you could really miss out.
You, and I, can only take people as far as we have been with Christ. We will be unable to carry people into deeper intimacy with Christ if we lack it ourselves.
The word of the Lord in our lives should be fresh, new, and ongoing. If your relationship with Christ is one-sided something is entirely wrong. It’s like expecting a relationship to grow and survive if two people are not cultivating it.
Relationships will diminish over time without intimacy and nurturing.
It’s not ever that Christ moves away from us but that we have moved away from Him.
What takes precedence in your life?
Are you committed to pursuing Christ by reading His word, communing with Him in prayer, and enjoying gatherings where iron sharpens iron?
Do you ever say, “No” to something or someone because you’ve already made a commitment to Jesus, or do you quickly leave Jesus behind when something else comes along? Is this the way we behave with others? Likely not.
In this trying season of our lives, it’s time to sit with Jesus and let Him talk with us about our commitment to Him.
