We love that what is “His” is also “mine” but I do believe we have entirely misunderstood that what is “mine” is really also “His.”
Jesus certainly gave us a royal inheritance. A gift of eternal life and an earthly life that is loaned to us for His glory and His Kingdom assignments.
What of yours, and mine, has really been treated as rightfully His?
Your time?
Is it really His or all yours?
Your resources?
Is what He loaned to you for this life working towards Kingdom building, or merely self-building?
Your possessions?
Can Christ request something of “yours” be given joyfully at any given time, or has it been tucked away in a cherished corner never to be used by Him?
Your children?
Have they been given to God fully since He formed them, after all, for His appointed use, or have we kept them safe and sound away from what might well be required of any Kingdom soldier?
Your daily life?
Have we fully surrendered to a life with Christ Jesus? Really moving with Him and obeying Him, giving our lives for the sake of others, and going where He asks us to go even if it means away from the crowds and possibly swimming a bit against the current?
Your future?
Does Christ have the first say in your future plans or have others, as well as yourself, mapped out a plan that seems right? Listen, no one decides who we are but Jesus. Not our friends, not our parents, and not our leaders. Who does Christ say you are?
These are the questions that only you and Christ Jesus know the answers to.
If every other voice can sway you from a sold-out life with Him. If every other request that comes along causes you to ditch the divinely appointed moments. If every other worldly thing can take the attention of your heart…then we have some self-deception going on.
One day I had to really ask myself if I really meant the words to the old hymn, “I surrender all” because in my experience and according to His word, following Jesus can absolutely cost you your ALL…
All to Jesus I surrender,
All to Him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him,
In His presence daily live.
I surrender all, I surrender all;
All to Thee, my blessed Savior,
I surrender all.
All to Jesus I surrender,
Make me, Savior, wholly Thine;
Let me feel Thy Holy Spirit,
Truly know that Thou art mine.
All to Jesus I surrender,
Lord, I give myself to Thee;
Fill me with Thy love and power,
Let Thy blessing fall on me.
