Some of you have never been given a chance to find out who you really are.
Your entire life has been built by others.
You’ve caved to the pressure of meeting everyone else’s needs, you’ve martyred yourself in ways God never asked you to, and now Jesus is giving you a chance to discover who He made you to be.
You can’t even tell me what you like and don’t like because you’ve never actually been asked before.
You don’t know if it’s the beach or the mountains, peanut butter or jelly, or both. You’ve not dove into adventures that expose your gifts because you’ve been a handmaiden to people.
But maybe it’s time you become the handmaiden to the Lord…huh?
There is a duty we all have to fulfill the mission we were made for. To find out what He wants from your life. But you’ve been so busy answering what everyone else wants from your life that His desires have been delayed.
And listen, some of us let others tell us who we could be and who we could not be. We never considered they might be wrong in the eyes of God.
The devil sends people and counterfeit assignments to derail you. At some point you’ll have to push back on it all.
It’ll feel like wading into some deep waters. It’ll be heavy at first as you push through the waves of deception.
Every voice that rises above the voice of Christ must fall. It may come from family, friends, acquaintances, and even the church. You’ll never have to look far for what others want, or expect, from you.
But what about Jesus? Does His desire matter to you?
Inside you He wove a personality for a certain position, skills and talents to further a Kingdom agenda, and spiritual gifts that show and grow as you advance into maturity in Christ.
Who, or what, is getting the best of you today?
Don’t you want to know who you are? Where God has anointed you for His Kingdom work? What fields have been assigned to you?
Well, it often starts at the beginning.
Your unique preferences play apart in who you’ve been designed to be. So maybe it’s time for a little playful Q & A in the prayer closet.
“Lord, who am I?” Some of these questions might seem silly but, seriously, can we have some honest soul searching? I can’t count the number of times I hear women say, “I don’t even know what I like?” Or “I don’t even know what my skills and talents are.”
Beach or mountains?
Peanut butter or Jelly?
Blue or purple?
Art or writing?
Inside or outside.
Mission work or church work.
Running or walking?
Africa or Netherlands?
Planes or ships?
Tulips or Dandelion’s?
Reading or watching?
Listening or talking?
Aloneness or company?
Two things can both be true and sometimes our answer is “both.” The secret ingredient is making sure your priorities are straight so that you may abide in Christ and He will abide in you.
When we begin to learn what we like and don’t like we are able to navigate proper lanes with Jesus. Some things I almost killed myself over I would hear God say, “You don’t even like this and I’ve not asked you to do it.”
Needless to say, my “Yes” became few and my “No” increased because I no longer figured in what people wanted or thought. Only what Jesus wanted and thought.
Start with the simple things as Jesus takes you on beautiful adventures to discovering who you are as a handmaiden to the Lord.
Luke 1:38 – And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word…
Luke 1:48 – For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
