Such power lies in our words. The power to lift up and the power to tear down. Christ seems to have such gentleness in the most astounding times doesn’t He? Even when calling for repentance His words often offer such hope. He has a way of repositioning us while still preserving at times our dignity, hope, and purpose…even when we do not deserve it. His ways seem to take us into the depths of His heart to see who He wants us to be…rather than tossing us away as unworthy and unwanted. There is a way with the woman at the well… or the woman caught in adultery. Oh if we would simply do as He does..Yet, like Peter, we often cut ones ear off in the name of Jesus. Rarely do we ponder the lasting effects of our actions.
I am finding that many times the only way He can cultivate gentleness in us is by putting us in a place of need for it first. In that place we are forever changed to be a vessel of gentleness. If we have never needed it…we have a very difficult time giving it. If we ask our Father for more of this little gift which is much like His heart…then we should not be surprised if we find ourselves in a place of needing it first. For this is many times how He answers our prayers in a way that will be lasting..
Gentleness, gentleness
Will we ever understand
What it surely takes
To be a gentle man.
Suffering long with others
Lending a steady hand
Gentleness, yes gentleness
Helps a heart to mend.
Gentleness, Oh gentleness
The mark of heaven’s scent
Even with a firmness
Gentle are wounds of friends.
How tender is His heart cry
Even when we’re deep in sin
Gentleness, yes gentleness
Will turn one back again.
Love Much,
Shelly
