Then He went out again by the sea; and all the multitude came to Him, and He taught them. As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him. (Mark 2:13-14)
There will be moments of unction when Christ beckons us to, “Follow me.” It may come during a very mundane moment such as it did for this man sitting in the tax office. In the midst of his day to day activity, Jesus passed by and called.
Yet, it may also come at a time when the storms in your life are raging and it might seem counterintuitive to leave where you are.
After all, who will manage the storm? Jesus will.
Many roads I have walked now with Jesus. I’ve never found it convenient for me, or those around me, to follow Christ when He’s called. There have been times when every voice rose against the call I heard but I had to persist with the Good Shepherd.
At the end of the day, like that man sitting in the tax office, he arose. So must you.
Amidst the storms and raging waves
On winding roads and in darkened caves
In seasons of joy and seasons of loss
When sunshine prevails or rain does fall.
When health it wavers and weariness comes
When energy bursts from songs that are sung
When mundane are days or time a whirlwind
A whisper is heard, “Follow Me,” in the wind.
