Acts 8:4 is a passage of significant importance. It describes a scattered church due to persecution.
“Therefore those who were scattered went everywhere, preaching the word.”
Everywhere.
It is a lost church if our preaching has become confined within four walls once or twice a week. It is also a weak one.
Outside the walls are ears needing to hear of a Savior sent to die for them.
It seems childish to even have to remind us of our dear assignment from Heaven. Yet, our straying has become so much that we have become a paralyzed church needing one more sermon, one more Bible study, and one more message. Still, we sit tight in our pews. Exactly, how much more study does one need to shake up the world for Jesus?
Perhaps it’s our entertainment-driven gatherings and our desire for positions that keep us at bay with the gospel, whereby we opt out of the responsibility? Perhaps it’s the lapse of judgment in saving ourselves as we hunker down in our barricades and compounds. Perhaps, it is that our temples made by man are full of those who have yet to truly believe in the ONE who is sending us?
Everywhere they went in the midst of persecution. A bunch of untrained and uneducated fishermen. Casting out devils, healing the sick, and preaching the word.
Chains were waiting for many who uttered the name of Jesus. All hands were on deck, with the realization that every born-again believer was immediately destined to preach the gospel. The disciples would not have understood our modern-day organized meetings and hierarchical strategies. They went with Christ to cemeteries, funeral processions, and down every journeyed street.
They would have employed every gift in every believer and implored them to preach everywhere.
You, reading this…if you’ve been born again into the family of God, you are a preacher of the gospel. You may not have a pulpit or a building. You may not have a large audience. Neither did those same fishermen.
They just set out fishing everywhere they went.
It is also your duty from Heaven as well.
So when you wonder where to go for Jesus to preach the gospel, here is your answer…
Everywhere…
