One of my greatest joys is seeing God birth a new song. I have learned His way with me in songwriting…remember I never thought songwriting could be possible for someone like me…but with God ALL things are possible. He will be very unique with each songwriter I have found. For me, I have no freedom to adjust style or any specifics once He has given me a song. We record it as it came. For this reason, I often find it difficult to fit in any “genre” or “category” as a songwriter. I only write what I am given. It’s just His way with me.
My long time producer and friend, Gary Leach, was appointed many years ago to hear -the only way he can -what I send him. I am only hearing what is “playing in my head.” Then when that is sent to Gary, and the team at Rosewood Studios …he is there to bring it to life with his brilliant gifts. It’s another real life example of the body of Christ working together in unique callings and gifts. I could not do what I do without his expertise…we are dependent upon each other. This is one of the most beautiful ways I have learned about Christ and His intent in His word. This is how it comes to life for me!
This song merely sang from my heart one day again out of nowhere. Yet another “new song”..”new sound”..”new feel”..for me personally…and even in this is the most amazing intimacy with my Father. I love how He delights me with expansion. How He doesn’t let me box Him into any corners. He just wants me to receive..what He has chosen for me in any given moment.
I had been studying the passage of scripture in 1 Kings…with Elijah… “for I hear the sound of the abundance of rain..” and it drew me in over and over and over. Ahhh…the sound of the abundance of rain…the sound….abundance. Each word caused me to sit with the Lord and “look” upon rain. How it comes, how it begins…how it progresses often times. The different forms of rain, the expectation of rain, the sadness of rain, the overwhelming rain, and the cleansing rain. This was while I had been praying about the message Christ wanted shared at an upcoming women’s conference.
I have never seen Him so intent on a topic…yet in this moment..He chooses to speak about rain. To remind of the promise of rain, as well as the pain of rain. Both water seeds in need of growth.
Christ will go to great measures to reach us…He’ll even write you as song“) Join us Monday with Hleradio.com, my dear friends, at 8 am as we release the song globally. The song will be available for download here on www.shellywilson.com by clicking on our store tab.
