Listen, we all need to grow. But in order to grow we must be willing to learn.
Revelation of Christ’s Word has often come because another heart nudged me to dig deeper, sit longer, ponder more passionately, and linger with the Holy Spirit in prayer. Sometimes, you must be willing to look and study from another perspective. Often they were further along than I was with Christ or, at the least, had been given revelation in some areas I had not yet been given.
Most often my circle has had to change somewhat for Christ to have me grow deeper in Him. In order to have the Spirit of God stirred in me I must be around people who get stirred. I have been around many a believer-but not all are stirred. Many study-but not all receive revelation.
Many profess Christ-but not all follow Him. Many are comfortable right where they are.
Often when Christ is about to teach me something new about Himself He will send me some people who can help me grow. This is most always a little uncomfortable, but necessary. So my circle begins to shift.
Iron sharpens iron. But hey, let’s get honest about it. Is iron even part of your circle? Do you have people who will challenge your faith? Challenge your teachings? Guard you from deception? Or do we surround ourselves with “yes” people.
We actually need those willing to be brutally honest in order to save our very lives at times and help us walk in destiny. If you don’t have those kind of people in your circle…then what you have is a circle without iron able to sharpen you.
I can promise you we ALL likely have a few things wrong. We are all learning and until we get to Glory we will likely not see all His mysteries.
If you never consider teachers with other points of view who perhaps lack a similar bias than you (because we all have them) then your bias will always remain-whether it’s the truth or just learned error. Of course, the Holy Spirit is the best teacher and He alone can reposition your understanding. He has done this for me on several issues. But at other times, He sends His people to help me grow in certain areas.
I have learned to not be afraid of searching and seeking. I may not end up agreeing 💯 on every issue, but I am willing to listen and reason the thing out until the Holy Spirit unlocks His heart to me. This is healthy and should be encouraged in the body. Be leery of those who don’t let you ask questions or even disagree. Remember, Christ lives in you too and He is fully able to speak to your heart. Make sure you have given Him the final say.
If you fear everything else(other than what you currently know) then you still do not yet know well whom you serve.
Sadly, many are comfortable in their circles and often the circle ends up being a mountain they go around for perhaps 40 years in a wilderness. No revelation. No transformation. No going from glory to glory and strength to strength.
When, perhaps, if you would simply “break camp” and decide to really pursue Christ-you might find some truth you had previously lacked and become more free, free indeed.
But the choice, of course, is ultimately yours…
