Teach Me

Teach Me

Teach Me

Teach me not to be the first

But pleased to be the least.

I care not for position Lord

Only tenderly to tend Thy sheep.

Teach me O Lord to offer blessings

Upon those who give scorn

To open doors for others Lord

Even when I’m shunned and torn.

Teach not how to fill a schedule full

But only how on Thee to wait

To be at peace in seeking Lord

While ordered steps you make.

Teach more not how to write a book

To be on the bestseller’s list

But teach me how to birth O Lord

The words Your heart does give.

Teach me to serve so tirelessly

To give until I’m spent

To offer needs a loving hand

And freely at all times give.

Teach me O God to lose the chains

Of that which suffers man

And teach me Lord to quickly kneel

When I should then repent.

Teach me Lord to see Your heart

Amid the sinful waves

To suffer with the hurting hearts

Who need your love today.

Teach me sweet Lord to never make

A formula of Thy work

Yet, teach me please to bend my ear

Discerning Your every word.
