As I’ve been finishing up my reading through the book of Isaiah, my eyes stopped today to take in this verse:
And they shall be called The Holy People, The Redeemed of the Lord; And you shall be called Sought Out, A City Not Forsaken. (Isaiah 62: 12)
In the margin I had marked some years ago the meaning of “Sought Out:”
“To seek with care”
Maybe it’s just me but the deeper meaning is so very beautiful to me.
I’ve watched God “seek with care” many broken hearts by now. The way He tenderly handles each one is so careful and gentle.
He seeks with care.
Perhaps we go after people for Christ without that treasure in our hearts of really caring for them.
Perhaps we have a point to prove or a deep desire to boast in “the work.”
But we have the God who “seeks with care.”
He cares about the fullness of that picture in any given life. He cares about their pains of the past and their hope for the future. He cares about the wounds that bleed and what caused them to do so.
He seeks with care.
He cares about their fears and anxiousness. He cares about their trouble with trust and the root cause of it.
He cares about their healing and He lovingly sings over a heart in need while always watching over us like we’re a delicate flower in drought.
He cares when we need encouragement and He cares when we cry.
He cares when we laugh and He cares when we are angry.
He cares when we grieve and He cares when we are joyful.
He always seeks with care.
Never are we forsaken…
He seeks us not as a task master but as a Good Shepherd. He seeks the prodigal not to embarrass them but to care for them.
He preserves dignity when others would like to pridefully expose a heart in hidden pain.
But He, The Christ, seeks with care.
He cares enough to bind the broken heart rather than just talking to it. He cares enough to walk through the valley of the shadow of death with us rather than just being some onlooker at the sidelines.
His prayers for us are constant and perfect but they are also full of the seeking that cares. Always at work “in this way and that way” so you can be sure that He sees you and He deeply cares.
The tiniest of pain in your heart is on His radar today.
My prayer is that you might see His movements around you so that you can see that you, too, are Sought Out by the Lord.
And that, in essence, means He is seeking you with care…
