Likely one of the cruelest things we can do to others is leaving them to their own imaginations.
In our Boundaries class we’ve talked about how “truth-telling” is the kind way to go.
In some seasons I was left to my own imaginations knowing relationships were broken but no honesty would come forward. This became an incredible mental torment of the devil.
It is likely what caused the entering in of what would soon be PTSD. It was a trauma that was never pulled down in the mind whereby I was left to my own imaginations not understanding what was actually happening in a whirlwind of a mess.
Imaginations can cause a storm of the worst kind inwardly.
I remember hearing a sermon maybe by David Wilkerson or Jim Cymbala. I’m not sure which but it stayed with me. Preaching about doing our best to bridge the gap between ourselves and other’s imaginations. Giving them relief from a kind of devilish “wondering” where the enemy could torment a life deeply.
Honesty is kindness.
We’ve discussed lately in measure the significance of being honest with people even if it’s hard, our responsibility at times as believers in Christ of derailing any entry point for the devil to torment a life, and not allowing a heart to have to “Guess the why’s” when something has clearly changed.
Often times we think it is wise to be silent when a wrong-doing happens, or we choose silence instead of confrontation because it’s a hard conversation.
However, what beauty could tend and mend all hearts involved if we kindly helped pull down all unnecessary imaginations by simply telling the truth.
It might surprise us how quickly storms dissipate within ourselves and others.
2Co 10:5 – Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ…
